Sullivan & Ward, P.C. is pleased to announce the promotion of Attorney Amanda A. James to shareholder. James is a public utility attorney who has established her expertise in public utility law and regulation through representation of clients in the electric, gas, telecommunications, water, and renewable energy industries in administrative hearings at the Iowa Utilities Board, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and in state and federal courts. James has counseled business clients regarding complex transactions, consumer issues, government relations and strategic planning. She has experience representing various regulated and unregulated entities such as municipal utilities, investor owned utilities, alternative energy producers, independent/merchant power producers, transmission operators and large power cooperatives.
James is a 2008 graduate of Drake University Law School with a Certificate in Litigation and Conflict Resolution, and a Certificate in Constitutional Law, and earned her B.A. from Grinnell College. She is a Leadership Iowa and West Des Moines Leadership Academy graduate. James is past president of the Energy Bar Association Midwest Chapter, and currently serves on the National Energy Bar Association Board of Directors.
We are also pleased to announce that on December 2, 2017, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced the appointment of Sullivan & Ward, P.C. Attorney Samantha Gronewald to district court judge in the Judicial District 5C, which covers Polk County, Iowa. Gronewald resigned as an attorney and shareholder at Sullivan & Ward, P.C. effective December 31, 2017 to accept the position.
